Emotional First Aid: A Community Conversation with Dr. Guy Winch
Tuesday, May 13 | 5:00 PM MT | In person + on Zoom
When we scrape a knee or pull a muscle, we know exactly what to do—clean the wound, take a break, maybe grab a bandage or an ice pack. But when we experience emotional pain—rejection, failure, guilt, loneliness—we often do… nothing. Or worse, we tell ourselves to “just get over it.”
Psychologist and author Dr. Guy Winch wants to change that.
We’re thrilled to welcome Dr. Winch for a special Author Talk and Community Conversation on Tuesday, May 13. Whether you join us in person or online, this free event is an opportunity to explore the powerful idea that our emotional well-being deserves just as much care as our physical health.
Dr. Winch’s popular TED Talk, Why We All Need to Practice Emotional First Aid, has been viewed over 30 million times and resonates with audiences worldwide for its relatable, science-backed message: tending to our emotional wounds is not just helpful—it’s essential.
His book, Emotional First Aid: Healing Rejection, Guilt, Failure, and Other Everyday Hurts, offers practical tools for navigating the small but painful emotional injuries we all encounter in everyday life. From battling rumination to rebuilding self-esteem, Dr. Winch’s work is full of accessible strategies that can help anyone feel more resilient and supported.
What to Expect:
-
We’ll watch Dr. Winch’s TED Talk together at the start of the event—so no need to read the book ahead of time!
-
Then, we’ll dive into a live conversation with Dr. Winch, including audience Q&A.
-
Free copies of Emotional First Aid are available starting April 29th at Valley of the Tetons Library while supplies last.
This event is designed to be warm, welcoming, and useful—whether you’re a longtime advocate for mental health or just curious about what “emotional first aid” could look like in your own life.
Come as you are. Leave with tools, hope, and a little more compassion for yourself and others.
Date: Tuesday, May 13
Time: 5:00–6:30 PM MT
