Jennifer Carter has a Master’s Degree in Counseling and a graduate certification in substance abuse counseling from Western Michigan University. Jennifer has completed intensive training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for adolescents and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). The basic premise of these therapies is helping the client
recognize how their thoughts and feelings influence their behavior. Dialectical Behavior Therapy has an emphasis on validation and acceptance while still promoting behavior change. Often we need to learn to accept ourselves as we are and have some things we need to change in order to meet our full potential. The mindfulness component allows us to tune in to what is happening in the mind and the body.
Jennifer has experience with individual, couples, child and family therapy. She has also been employed at Jackson Hole Community Counseling Center for the past seven years, and is the mental health liaison for the Teton County, Wyoming Court Supervised Treatment program. She has completed numerous trainings on co-occurring disorders and trauma. Feel free to give Jennifer a call for a free initial phone consultation.
